Bibliothekare bestens gerüstet, Knowledge-Management in
Unternehmen, Forschungseinrichtungen und Hochschulen entscheidend zu
unterstützen oder gar zu installieren.

Knowledge management - a new task for libraries?
In our information society, knowledge has become the decisive resource
in industry, science and society. Not only the sustainable use of
existing knowledge, but also the generation of new knowledge by
combining the knowledge available, and the creation of new original
knowledge are at the centre of knowledge management. Libraries have
been concerned for thousands of years with the "management"
of (explicit) knowledge and - often unconsciously - already have
considerable expertise here. Moreover, librarians are mostly very
well qualified in matters of standardization, categorization and
formalization of knowledge and information. This paper calls for a
greater participation of libraries in knowledge management and for a
new self-image of librarians. One can excellently build on the
existing basic expertise, and with a suitable further qualification
in management libraries and librarians are optimally prepared for
decisively encouraging or even installing knowledge management in
enterprises, research institutions and universities
