Im ersten Teil in Ausgabe Nr. 2/2003, S. 137 ff, ging es im Wesentlichen um die Grundlagen von Informations- und Kommunikationsprozessen. Dabei stand die zeichenbasierte Information und Kommunikation im Mittelpunkt. In diesem Beitrag soll herausgearbeitet werden, warum gerade ab der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts Information einen immer größeren Stellenwert in Wirtschaft, Politik, Gesellschaft und Kultur erhielt und später gar zu einem epochalen Begriff "Informationsgesellschaft" avancierte. Darüber hinaus sollen die charakteristischen Merkmale einer Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft umrissen werden.

Part one (No. 2/2003, pp. 137-144) dealt with some basic elements of communications. We concentrated on sign based information- and communication processes.
This contribution shows, why by the midth of the 20^th century information gained an important place in economics, politics, society and culture.
Later on, information advanced to an epochal term "Information Society". Furthermore, we will outline some characteristic features of an information- and knowledge society.

Dans la première partie, nous nous sommes intéressés avant tout aux fondements des processus d'information et de communication. Au centre se trouvaient l'information et la communication basées sur les signes. Dans cette contribution, nous voulons dégager pourquoi, à partir du milieu du XXème siècle, l'information s'est vue accorder une importance de plus en plus grande dans l'économie, la politique, la société et la culture, au point d'en arriver, plus tard, à la notion de «société de l'information». En outre, nous esquissons les aspects caractéristiques de la société de l'information et du savoir.
