Welche Zukunft haben Bibliotheken? Hat ihr Ende bereits mit dem Fortschreiten der digitalen Revolution begonnen? Wird es in 20 oder 40 Jahren noch Bibliotheken in der Form geben, wie wir sie heute kennen? Wenn ja, wie sieht die Bibliothek von morgen überhaupt aus? Ausgehend von der heutigen Realität auf dem Bibliotheks- und Informationssektor in Deutschland, versucht der Beitrag in spekulativer Form Antworten auf einige der drängenden Fragen zu finden. Dabei kommen pessimistische und optimistische Stimmen zu Wort. Die Zukunft der Bibliothek ist vor allem von der Entwicklung der Medien und ihrer vielfältigen Nutzung abhängig. Die "virtuelle Weltbibliothek", die keine Räume und eventuell keine Bücher mehr braucht und vielleicht nur noch ein total vernetztes Matrix-Konstrukt darstellt, erscheint ebenso in den Visionen wie die "Hybridbibliothek", die Traditionelles und Modernes in sich vereint. Klar ist jedenfalls, dass die zukünftige Bibliothek eine Herausforderung nicht nur für Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare ist, sondern ein strategischer Teil des Wissenschaftsmanagements jeder Universität, jeder Kommune und jedes Landes sein muss. Which future do Libraries have? Is there dying already rung in with the progressing of the digital revolution? Will Libraries still exist in 20 or 40 years just in that form how we know today? If they exist, how does the library look at all tomorrow? Outgoing from the initial position and the today's reality on the library- and information sector in Germany, this contribution will try to give answers to some of the urgent questions in a speculative form. Pessimistic and optimistic voices come to word. The future of the library depends particularly on the development of the media and their various use. The "virtual world library", which possibly needs no more areas and no books and perhaps will represent only a totally interlaced matrix, appears likewise in the visions like the "hybrid library", which unites traditional and modern in itself. It is clear anyhow that the future library is a challenge not only for librarians, but have to be a strategic part of the science management of each university, each municipality and each country. Y aura-t-il des bibliothèques sous la forme que nous connaissons aujourd'hui dans 20 ou 40 ans? Si oui, comment se présentera la bibliothèque de demain? Partant de la réalité actuelle dans le secteur d'information et bibliothécaire en Allemagne, cette contribution un peu spéculative essaye de trouver des réponses à quelques questions urgentes. Des voix pessimistes et optimistes ont la parole. L'avenir de la bibliothèque dépend surtout du développement des médias et de leur multiple usage. La "bibliothèque mondiale virtuelle" qui n'aura peut-être ni bâtiment ni livres et qui ne sera peut-être qu'un système de matrice en réseau, apparaît aussi dans ces visions comme la "bibliothèque hybride" qui unit le traditionnel et le moderne. Il est clair que la bibliothèque de l'avenir est un challenge non seulement pour des bibliothécaires, mais une partie stratégique pour la gestion de science de chaque université, de chaque municipalité et de chaque pays.
