Nielsen BookData announced MARC data agreement with British Library

Nielsen BookData (michael.healy@nielsenbookdata.co.uk) announced a new arrangement with the British Library (ben.sanderson@bl.uk) that will allow BookData the right to incorporate in its products and services data records produced by the British Library. The deal follows and supports an earlier announcement by BookData to offer new catalogue-quality information services to the library community in the UK and internationally.

Within the next few months BookData will launch a new service for libraries which will offer library quality records enhanced by British Library records. BookData MARC will supply records in UKMARC and MARC21 format and will initially be delivered as a flexible data feed.

By incorporating British Library records, BookData can now offer a truly unrivalled service for libraries and library suppliers, reinforcing its position as market leader. BookData's database of over 6 million English-language titles will form the base of the full MARC service, which will be enhanced by British Library records and trade information (price & availability) that BookData currently provides through its existing services. The new BookData MARC service will deliver all the information required for current and retrospective cataloguing providing a consistent and cost efficient service for cataloguers.
