CURL Libraries sign up

CURL (the Consortium of Research Libraries) has signed an agreement with Nielsen Book to receive enriched data to enhance the Copac service. Copac is an online OPAC system funded through the JISC and developed and hosted by Mimas at the University of Manchester. The service provides free access to the merged online catalogues of both CURL members and increasingly of other important research collections in the UK. It is a highly valued resource for academic libraries that can search over 30 million documents dating back to c.1100AD, in many languages.

Traditionally Copac has been a purely text catalogue largely using the data held or catalogued by members of CURL. However the BookData information service will be used to enrich records with images and additional descriptive content and will be available to anyone accessing the Copac website. The enhanced data is provided as part of the BookData Record Supply Service which delivers tailored bibliographic data to libraries and retailers worldwide and is highly regarded throughout the industry.

Nielsen Book is providing data, ordering, electronic trading and market analysis tools to libraries and library suppliers worldwide. The BookData service provides comprehensive, accurate and timely bibliographic data, with enriched records for over 6 million English-language titles to libraries in a variety of formats and frequencies, and the range of services for libraries continues to grow. With every title in the Nielsen Book database now available in both UKMARC and MARC21 formats, either as a direct download from the BookData Online service or as a flexible data feed, providing a seamless way for libraries to access consistent, high quality MARC data and integrate the data into their work flows.
