Dynix Releases Horizon 7.4 and Horizon Information Portal 4.0

Dynix, provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced the general availability of Horizon 7.4 and Horizon Information Portal 4.0. The information portal is one of the first products to be released using the 8.0 infrastructure. Built on the open source uPortal project, Horizon Information Portal 4.0 delivers a flexible Web portal environment that will advance libraries beyond a simple online PAC to deliver any type of electronic data. Using channels, libraries will be able to aggregate all types of content including databases, live RSS feeds, applets, embedded HTML and more.

Library users will now be able to customize their online experience to satisfy their needs and interests. Upon creating a unique library logon they will be able to subscribe to or unsubscribe from any channel for complete customization. Each time they log onto the system they will be presented with their uniquely customized screen including requests for local library materials and inter-library loan material.

Through Horizon Information Portal's federated searching tool, library users will be able to search from multiple data sources in a single search. Not only will searches be able to point users to the library's physical collection but also electronic and online content as well.

Horizon 7.4 will include several updated features including support for 13-digit ISBN numbers and lists to display recently purchased items and the most popular items. Libraries wishing to install Horizon Information Portal 4.0 today must upgrade to Horizon 7.4.
