Die traditionellen lokalen Bibliothekssysteme leben schon lange. Sie werden sicher noch lange weiterleben. Inzwischen bringen aber einige Firmen Produkte auf den Markt, die die bisherige Arbeitsteilung in absehbarer Zeit grundlegend verändern könnten. Software as a Service (SaaS) und cloud computing sind die Richtung. Die neuen Discovery-Systeme folgen ihr und sind der erste Schritt. Weitere Schritte werden folgen.
The future has already started. Do new service products lead to a new strategy for libraries?
The traditional Integrated Library Systems (ILS) are used already for a long time. They will still live long. But recently new products are announced or already available on the market which might fundamentally change this business in the years to come. Software as a Service (SaaS) and cloud computing are the direction. The new discovery systems are following this direction and are the first steps. Further steps will follow.
