Der Neubau der VOLKSWAGEN Universitätsbibliothek, der nur durch public private partnership nach mehr als 20 jähriger Planung verwirklicht werden konnte, beherbergt die weiterhin selbständigen Universitätsbibliotheken der Technischen Universität Berlin und der Universität der Künste Berlin. Zwei Bibliotheken unter einem Dach bedeuten für die Kundinnen und Kunden der Bibliotheken ein größeres Angebot von Technik bis bildender Kunst in einem Gebäude, kurze Wege, technische Einrichtungen auf modernstem Standard. Ziel ist es, trotz organisatorischer Unabhängigkeit, gegenüber den Kundinnen und Kunden einheitlich aufzutreten. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Geschichte des Bauprojekts, seine Finanzierung, die architektonischen Grundsätze und die Nutzung des Gebäudes durch die Bibliotheken. The new building of the VOLKSWAGEN Universitätsbibliothek houses the two independent University Libraries of the Technical University Berlin and the University of the Arts Berlin. After more than 20 years of planning this state of the art library could only be successfully realised through a public private partnership. Here two libraries under one roof provide access to their diverse collections from engineering to fine arts, they offer short distances for the users and up-to-date technology. In spite of the financial and organisational independence of the two libraries our ambition is a joint performance for our customers.
   This article gives an overview on the history of the construction project, its financing, its architectural principles and the use of the building by the two libraries. B.I.T.online 8(2005) Nr. 2

La réconstruction de la VOLKSWAGEN UNIVERSITÄTSBIBLIOTHEK, qui ne pouvait être réalisée que par le partenariat public-privé après plus de 20 ans de planification reçoit les bibliothèques universitaires indépendantes de l'Université Technique de Berlin et l'Université des Arts de Berlin. Deux bibliothèques sous un toit signifient une offre étendue des ouvrages techniques aux beaux-arts pour les clients des bibliothèques, courtes distances et l'équipement technique le plus moderne. L'objectif est d'apparaître uniformément par rapport aux clients malgré une indépendance au niveau de l'organisation des deux bibliothèques.
