Der Essay folgt den Spuren von Ingenieuren in der deutschen Literatur seit dem 19. Jahrhundert bis zum Erscheinen des Romans Homo Faber von Max Frisch im Jahr 1957. Das Bild des Ingenieurs änderte sich in der Literatur nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erheblich. Im hier untersuchten Zeitraum wurden Ingenieure häufig als Helden, wagemutige Abenteurer oder erfolgreiche Unternehmer geschildert. Der Beitrag gliedert sich in folgende Kapitel: Soziale Herkunft und Persönlichkeit - Tüftler und Visionäre - Internationalität - politische Abstinenz - Emotionale Resistenz - Technik und Natur Homo Faber - homo faber gegen homo politicus? - Literatur. Der Essay schließt mit einem Aufruf zum regelmäßigen Gedankenaustausch zwischen den Natur- und den Geisteswissenschaften. Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken wären der geeignete Ort dafür. This essay follows the steps of engineers in German literature from the 19^th century till the publication of Max Frisch's Homo Faber in 1957. There is a remarkable change in the image of literary engineers after Second World War. Former novels often described them as heroes and successful adventurers or undertakers. Characteristic topics of literature dealing with engineers are: social background and special characters of engineers, their visions and global activities, their political abstinence and emotional problems, their relations to nature and the debate of their social responsibility. The essay ends with an appeal to discuss aspects of the technical sciences and the humanities as well in the programs of research libraries as it has been done in the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Bibliothek in Hanover during the last three years. Cet essai suit les traces d'ingénieurs dans la littérature allemande depuis le 19^ème siècle jusqu'à la parution en 1957 d'Homo Faber de Max Frisch. La littérature d'après-guerre offre une image considérablement différente de l'ingénieur. Dans la période qui nous occupe ici, il est le plus souvent représenté en héros, en aventurier audacieux ou en entrepreneur couronné de succès. L'article est composé des chapitres suivants: origine sociale et personnalité - l'ingénieur bricoleur et visionnaire - son internationalité - son abstinence politique et sa résistance émotionelle - sa relation à la technique et à la nature - Homo Faber - homo faber contre homo politicus? - la littérature. L'essai se conclut sur un appel à un échange d'idées régulier entre les sciences littéraires, humaines et sociales et les sciences naturelles et physiques. Les bibliothèques de recherche seraient alors le lieu idéal pour ces échanges ce que montre la bibliothèque Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz en organisant depuis quelques années des manisfestations allant dans ce sens.
