"Wikia Search": eine neue Suchmaschine für Bibliotheken?
Mit "Wikia Search" ist seit 2008 eine neue Suchmaschine auf den Markt gekommen. Als selbst-generierte Suchmaschine bietet damit neuartige und zusätzliche Such- und Nutzungsmöglichkeiten. Der vorliegende Beitrag hat einerseits die Einsatzmöglichkeiten und den Zusatznutzen von "Wikia Search" gegenüber den etablierten Suchmaschinen untersucht und dabei den Fokus auf die Suchstrategien in Bibliotheken gelegt. Für den einfachen User mit simplen Suchanfragen bietet "Wikia Search" keinen echten Mehrwert gegenüber den etablierten Suchmaschinen und selbst für den erfahrenen Nutzer ist "Wikia Search" zu intransparent und unterstützt die Aufbereitung der Suchergebnisse kaum. "Wikia Search" liegt in der Qualität und Quantität der Antworten meist weit hinter der Konkurrenz.
   Eine Umfrage zur Bekanntheit und Nutzung von "Wikia Search" in Bibliotheken ergab bei einem Rücklauf von 435 Antworten weltweit ernüchternde Ergebnisse Wikia Search ware weitgehend unbekannt und wurde nicht zur professionellen Informationssuche eingesetzt. B.I.T.online 11(2008) Nr. 4
"Wikia Search": a new search engine for libraries?
With "Wikia Search" a new search engine has come on to the market since 2008. As a self-generated search engine it thus offers new and additional possibilities for searching and utilization. The present contribution examines on the one hand the possibilities for application and the additional uses of "Wikia Search" compared to the established search engines and has thereby laid the focus on search strategies in libraries. For the simple user with easy search queries "Wikia Search" offers no real added value compared to the established search engines and even for the experienced user "Wikia Search" is too abstruse and hardly supports the processing of search results. "Wikia Search" lies both in the quality and quantity of the answers mostly far behind the competition.
   A survey concerning the knowledge and use of "Wikia Search" in libraries provided, with a return of 435 answers worldwide, the sobering results that Wikia Search was widely unknown and not used for professional searches. B.I.T.online 11(2008) Nr. 4

Avec « Wikia Search », un nouveau moteur de recherche est arrivé depuis 2008 sur le marché.. En tant que moteur de recherche auto-généré, il offre ainsi des possibilités de recherche et d’utilisation nouvelles et supplémentaires. Nous avons examiné les possibilités d’application et d’utilisation supplémentaire de « Wikia Search » par rapport aux moteurs de recherche établis et nous nous sommes en même temps concentrés sur les stratégies de recherche en bibliothèque. Pour le simple utilisateur dont les demandes de recherche sont faciles, « Wikia Search » n’offre pas de réelle plus-value par rapport aux moteurs de recherche établis et même pour l’utilisateur expérimenté, « Wikia Search » est trop opaque et ne soutient guère le traitement des résultats de la recherche. En termes de qualité et de quantité de réponses, « Wikia Search » se trouve la plupart du temps loin derrière la concurrence.
   Un sondage sur la notoriété et l’utilisation de « Wikia Search » dans les bibliothèques a fourni, avec un retour de 435 questions à l’échelle mondiale, le résultat dégrisant selon lequel « Wikia Search » était dans une large mesure inconnu et non utilisé pour des recherches professionnelles.
