ProQuest Enhances Distance Learning with Documentaries from FILM PLATFORM

Academic Video Online adds hundreds of award-winning streaming films
to complement critical discussions on bioethics, political science, history and more.

Education has moved online, and so have provocative discussions around global issues related to bioethics, health policy, politics, history and more. These issues are often critically examined through documentary films – and with the rise in distance learning, the medium is more important than ever.

Through a partnership with renowned provider FILM PLATFORM, ProQuest is adding more than 500 influential and thought-provoking new documentaries to its streaming video collection.

A sample of FILM PLATFORM films now available for classes includes:

“We’re seeing a surge in the use of streaming video in education. It’s an ideal medium for keeping students engaged in a distance-learning environment,” said Sarah Brennan, Product Manager for Academic Video Online. “Our partnership with FILM PLATFORM enables school and university libraries to offer hundreds of additional thought-provoking resources across a variety of disciplines, ensuring that research, teaching and learning continue despite the challenging circumstances.”

“At FILM PLATFORM, we strive to promote the important discussions that surround our films and make these documentaries central to the current academic conversation,” said Elinor Kowarsky, Founder and CEO, FILM PLATFORM. “Especially in these times, students, academics and filmmakers from far-flung corners of the world are using film to connect, provoke debate, and inspire change. We’re honored to work with ProQuest to make these films available to those who need them most.”

All current subscribers to the Academic Video Online or ProQuest One™ Academic databases will automatically get access to this new content.

“I was thrilled to see that so many titles my faculty have been asking about are now available from ProQuest,” said Sara Duff, Librarian at the University of Central Florida. “And with our instruction moved online for spring and summer, the timing could not be better for this new content.”

Libraries who need streaming versions of DVD titles purchased from FILM PLATFORM can request them from ProQuest. ProQuest also has a series of additional programs to help libraries support distance learning for their patrons. These programs are detailed on the ProQuest website.
