California State Library Chooses Ex Libris Solutions

California State Library finds the Ex Libris suite of solutions to be the right fit for its current needs as well as future goals

Jerusalem, Israel – Ex Libris™ Group is pleased to announce that California State Library has chosen a suite of solutions from Ex Libris. After carefully researching the current product offering, as well as the company’s long-term strategy, the Library has replaced its SirsiDynix DRA Classic system with the Aleph® integrated library system. The Library has also selected the SFX® OpenURL link server and the MetaLib® gateway and metasearch portal, both from Ex Libris.

“We found the Ex Libris suite of products to be well matched to the Library’s immediate product functionality requirements as well as for our future vision,” Susan Hildreth, state librarian, commented. “In addition to using Aleph to manage the Library’s main print collection, Aleph will provide access to a picture catalog that incorporates images from the California History Room’s collection. Links from each bibliographic record provide online access to the images, which are stored outside of the ILS on another library server,” added Hildreth. “Over the last few years electronic resources have become an ever-larger portion of the Library’s collection. We are confident that making e-resources more easily available through the superior linking technology of SFX and MetaLib federated search will enormously benefit the readers and researchers of California.”

“Following a long and meticulous selection process, we are honored that California State Library has chosen a suite of Ex Libris products to widen the breadth of the services that it offers its citizens," commented Susan Pastore, vice president, sales, Ex Libris North America. "The Library judged the core strengths of Aleph, MetaLib, and SFX—scalability, support for large and diverse collections, and flexible architecture—to closely match the requirements of their long-term strategy.”
