Springer launches new interdisciplinary psychology journal

Human Arenas will provide a new outlet for research into psychology, culture and meaning starting in March 2018

A scholarly peer-reviewed journal which promotes the interdisciplinary study of higher psychological functions in human phenomena is being launched by Springer. Human Arenas will publish a mix of theoretical and empirical studies, focusing on the analysis and critical discussion of crucial, meaningful data. Submissions will be accepted from 15 November 2017, and the first issue will be published in spring 2018. Rather than an accumulation of empirical evidence, Human Arenas encourages the exploration of ideas and productive thinking through novel forms of scientific enquiry and writing.

The journal will be headed by two editors-in-chief: Pina Marsico of the University of Salerno in Italy, and Luca Tateo from the Centre for Cultural Psychology at Aalborg University in Denmark. The vision of the journal is to provide an interdisciplinary space for debate in which psychology researchers can share knowledge in dialogue with researchers in all other social science disciplines. Issues will be available both online and in print, and authors will have the option of publishing open access.

“Knowledge does not follow the law of physics—on the contrary, the more it expands the more it becomes dense! Our new journal will push the current boundaries between academic disciplines. Human Arenas is about exploring and developing the innovative and groundbreaking ideas of young researchers and passionate scholars from across the globe,” said Luca Tateo.

“Science is a passionate affair, and is about going beyond your safe zone,” added Pina Marsico.

Lilith Dorko, social and behavioral sciences editor at Springer said: “Dr. Marsico and Dr. Tateo bring a wealth of academic experience and intellectual curiosity to everything they do, and I could not be more excited to launch Human Arenas with them. As the fields of behavioral and social sciences simultaneously grow and converge into one another, now is the time for our journal to publish fascinating interdisciplinary science.”

Human Arenas encourages contributions from all disciplines of psychology, as well as those researchers working in the fields of philosophy, anthropology, sociology, history, geography, and even biology.
